Cyprus

Gymnasio A Agiou Theodorou Paphos, is a secondary public school located in the town of Paphos on the western side of the island of Cyprus. Paphos District has a population of about 65000 people. There are 480 pupils and 71 teachers in the school. There are a relatively large percentage of migrant students coming from other European and non-European countries. The children come from various economic backgrounds and approximately 10% of them receive “enhanced” teaching and around 30 students receive free school meals. Our school has never participated before in any Comenius project, thus the will to do so successfully among teachers and learners is of utmost importance.

The coastal Akamas Natural reserve which is considered to be a national environmental treasure, is located 30Km away from the school. The participation of our school in this project and the National Park study will both improve environmental education and develop the environmental awareness of our students and the local community. Furthermore Paphos forest is of great importance and is also situated within the district of Paphos therefore will also be studied in this project.
The main role of Cyprus in the project will be to plan and host one meeting, hosting students and Teachers. In addition Cyprus will be responsible for the maintenance and monitoring of the Twinspace webpage and eTwinning tools where much of the electronic communication between the participant coordinators and students will take place, and also videoconferences between the participants.
